Union City Borough Council authorized a conditional motion Oct. 7 to change its employee health insurance provider for 2025 if termination costs would not exceed $42,000. The motion, offered by Councilor Brian Osborn and seconded by Councilor Steadman, passed with two councilors recorded as abstaining (Riley Cross and James Kerns). Manager Cindy Wells said an estimate of run-out costs would be provided Oct. 15 and that switching from Benecon to Municipal Benefit Services could save the borough approximately $13,730 per year.
Council directed staff to collect the termination and run-out cost estimates and return with finalized figures before any contract change. The motion therefore conditionally authorizes a provider change pending confirmation that termination costs fall below the $42,000 threshold specified in the motion.
