County approves TSIP application to pursue portable traffic signals with Plymouth County

The Woodbury County board approved a resolution to apply for an Iowa DOT Traffic Safety Improvement Program (TSIP) grant to acquire portable temporary traffic signals, in partnership with Plymouth County. Secondary Roads engineer Laura Severs said the signals could reduce the need for flaggers during routine patching and bridge-end work and that the grant is commonly used across Iowa.
Severs explained the grant structure: "The grant is actually 100%. You would receive the signals for free. You'd have to buy them, and then, we would get reimbursed from the state if we receive the grant." The board moved, seconded and approved the application by unanimous vote (5-0).
Severs said partnering with a neighboring county increases regional significance for the application and improves its chances in the competitive grant process.
