The Woodbury County board voted unanimously to approve a $126,470 quote to purchase a Caterpillar skid steer track loader for District 3. Secondary Roads engineer Laura Severs recommended the purchase, saying the county's existing skid steers lacked the power and hydraulic flow required to operate a recently acquired forestry head.
Severs told the board the county considered a John Deere quote but it did not meet the hydraulic- and power-related requirements. "I still would recommend this Caterpillar 2 75 x c for a $126,470 so that we can, really use that forestry head that we have and and, again, all the other purposes that the district 3 will use it for," Severs said. She added the county can avoid buying a trailer because the new skid steer is larger and can be used with existing equipment allocations.
Chair moved the motion to approve the quote; it was seconded and recorded as a unanimous vote (5-0). The board directed staff to proceed with procurement under the accepted quote.
