Council awards $16,000 hotel/motel funds to downtown regeneration project

The Colfax City Council voted Feb. 17 to award $16,000 in hotel/motel funds to the Colfax Downtown Association to support its regeneration project, which includes a 75/25 matching grant for storefront improvements, purchase of flower pots and an annual community cleanup.
CDA Executive Director Whitney Bond outlined a suite of downtown initiatives — Main Street Tax Credit Program, business incubator, downtown beautification, and plans for "Downtown Heights" short-term rental opportunities — and said the CDA recently won grants that supported three local recipients: Greg's Electric, Connie Burris (a new business venture) and 2 Scoop and a Byte. Bond said the CDA had secured a grant for five EV chargers that will be installed behind the incubator at 102 N Main. Bond told council the regeneration funding would strengthen curb appeal and encourage travelers to stop downtown. Councilmember Golden moved approval of Resolution 26-02, seconded by Huntwork; roll call was all yes.
The CDA reported a multi-year goal to place flower pots on every downtown corner; officials said the requested funds will be used to meet matching requirements and support visible beautification work.
