The Hammond Redevelopment Commission approved two conditional forgivable loans during its May 7 meeting, supporting first-time homebuyers. Staff presented two applicants: one purchasing 6622 Parish Avenue who would receive $6,796, and a second (a Hammond police officer) purchasing 7104 Northcott who would receive $10,000. The commission approved both loans by unanimous roll call after a motion by Commissioner Myricks and a second.
During staff questioning, one applicant said he learned about the program through friends; staff confirmed both applicants were first-time homebuyers. "I heard about you all through a couple friends," one applicant said when asked how he learned of the program. The chair congratulated the recipients after the motion passed.
