Superintendent highlights student achievements, schedules ribbon cuttings

Superintendent Dr. James reported that a middle-school student interviewed astronaut Leland Melvin, a Shawnee High senior earned a spot in an Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship, and ribbon cuttings are planned for several schools, including Jim Thorpe Academy on Sept. 16, 2025.
Superintendent Dr. James used the Sept. 15 board meeting to highlight student accomplishments and district events. He reported a Shawnee Middle School student participating in the Spark a Change Leadership Program interviewed former NFL player and NASA astronaut Leland Melvin, and that a Shawnee High senior was selected for the Advanced Medical & Public Health Internship program.
Dr. James also announced a series of ribbon cuttings: Horace Mann, Jefferson and Will Rogers schools will have ribbon-cutting events; a separate ribbon cutting at Jim Thorpe Academy for its outdoor classroom and tiny house is scheduled for Sept. 16, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. He noted Jefferson Elementary will be recognized Oct. 3, 2025 at the home football game, when students will lead the team out of the tunnel. These items were presented as informational announcements in the superintendent’s report.
