The Board of Public Courts and Safety on May 21 granted a continuance in a pending disciplinary matter involving a firefighter after the firefighter's attorney requested more time. A staff member told the board, "I received yesterday a letter from his attorney, requesting a continuance of any date being set on the hearing on that." The board moved to approve the continuance and asked both sides' counsel to coordinate a new hearing date.
Board members clarified there was no hearing date already set and that any statutory timing waived by the firefighter would be handled through counsel. Staff said the law department would notify the board by correspondence once a replacement date was confirmed. No vote tally by name was recorded; the motion passed on a voice vote.
