Bill to create TISA review committee with designees advances after State Board testimony

House Bill 17,35, presented by Chairlady Moody, would create a TISA review committee that mirrors previous BEP review structures and permit officials such as the Comptroller and legislative education chairs to assign designees to serve on the committee. The sponsor said the committee will meet quarterly and issue an annual report to review TISA funding allocations.
Nathan James of the State Board of Education told the committee the change offers practical flexibility: “It's more to allow them to get experts to sit in for them from time to time,” and he said the committee's first meeting is expected toward the end of April. Members debated whether designees would reduce principal attendance, and the bill was amended and then approved to move to full Education Committee (recorded vote: 7 ayes, 1 no).
