Mayor says Hammond will share reduced bridge repair cost with Highland and basin authority

Mayor reported that work on the bridge connecting Hammond to Highland on 177th Street is nearly complete and that local partners agreed to split repair costs after the town of Highland initially estimated $800,000 in repairs. "We took their $800,000 proposal, and it's more like 350,000," the mayor said, describing Hammond's procurement advantage and an agreement to divide costs among Hammond, Highland and the Little Calumet River Basin Authority.
Council members asked about Hammond's share. A council member noted Hammond's portion would be roughly $115,000'$120,000; the mayor confirmed funding would come from the Capital Improvements Board. INDOT's work on the bridge is finishing, the mayor said, and city crews planned to mill the Highland side and repave it within days so the crossing should reopen shortly. No formal council action was recorded on the repairs during the meeting.
