Board approves multiple curriculum MOUs including adolescent health instruction and CTE internships

The board approved MOUs to host Kern High School CTEC interns, provide California Healthy Youth Act instruction at Richland Junior High (cost not to exceed $25,000), support intern teachers via UMass Global, and accept KCSOS school social work interns to work with district staff.
District staff presented and the board approved several agreements intended to expand instructional supports and internships. Mrs. Hernandez described an MOU with the Kern High School CTEC Careers in Education program to allow high school students to complete internship hours at district classrooms; the board approved the Community Classroom Training Agreement.
The board also approved an MOU with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) to provide adolescent sexual health instruction required under the California Healthy Youth Act (Ed. Code §§51930–51939). The program is voluntary and parents may opt scholars out; funding will come from Unrestricted Lottery Funds with costs not to exceed $25,000. Additional MOUs were approved to support UMass Global intern teachers through district induction and to place school social work interns through KCSOS.
