Board approves student trips: Close Up Washington and Math Academy camp
Summary
The board approved a Close Up Washington, D.C. trip for migrant scholars (June 21–26, 2025) with four scholars and one chaperone, and a Math Academy camp for ten migrant sixth- and seventh-grade scholars (June 6–8, 2025). Transportation to LAX for Close Up will be provided by Migrant Education Region V.
Superintendent Rosa A. Romero presented two student-travel items on May 12, 2025, that the board approved unanimously. The Close Up program for newcomers will bring four migrant scholars and a chaperone to Washington, D.C., June 21–26, 2025, with visits planned to the U.S. Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, and the National Archives; Migrant Education Region V will provide transportation to Los Angeles International Airport.
Separately, ten sixth- and seventh-grade migrant scholars were invited to attend a Math Academy at Rancho El Chorro from June 6–8, 2025. The camp is designed to strengthen math reasoning and provide team-building and leadership experiences. Both motions passed 5–0.
