Golden Oak Elementary honored as California Distinguished School; principal outlines Dual Language Immersion goals

Golden Oak Elementary was recognized at the April 22 board meeting as a California Distinguished School. Assistant Superintendent Annette Blacklock presented Principal Diane Barnett with a commemorative plaque honoring the school’s selection.
Barnett also presented an overview of Golden Oak’s Dual Language Immersion program, saying the program’s goals are to “develop bilingualism and biliteracy in students,” to promote “high academic achievement in both languages,” and to “foster an appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures while helping students build a positive self‑image.” She noted that by high school scholars can earn the California Seal of Biliteracy, which can support college scholarships and career opportunities. The board and trustees congratulated the Golden Oak staff for the recognition.
