Engineer Bayer described a proposed footpath linking the hotel and parking area and said he would reconfigure it to run behind Big Bear Gear at Planner Joanna Slagle’s suggestion to reduce pedestrian exposure to parked cars. Bayer also outlined a signage package: bike/pedestrian signage at Old River Road/Route 29, signage on the opposite side of Route 29, signs encouraging people to walk bicycles across Route 29, and warnings 500 feet north and south of the property.
Board members pressed why NJDOT would not permit a marked crosswalk across Route 29; Engineer Decker said the agency denied the request and “I believe they may have viewed the request as a hard stop crosswalk which would impede traffic flow.” The board asked the applicant to provide the formal NJDOT denial letters for the Township file before the continued hearing.
