Annie Hansen, representing the county attorney's office, presented agreement 25-15 to retain outside legal counsel to represent the Sheriff Deputy Merit Commission in a pending employee-discipline appeal described in the meeting as the "Merckley" appeal. Hansen said the counsel would be engaged specifically for the appeal's final stages and would not routinely attend every merit-commission meeting unless future cases require similar assistance.
"This is just specifically for the Merckley appeal," Hansen said, clarifying the scope. Commissioner Perry moved to approve agreement 25-15; Commissioner Vincent seconded and the commission voted to approve the contract.
