Commission adds fire wardens to fleet-policy exemptions for emergency response

An amendment to the county fleet policy to include fire wardens among special positions eligible for limited personal use of county vehicles was presented by Annie Hansen of the county attorney's office and approved by the commission. Hansen said the change responds to a request from the fire chief to allow wardens to use vehicles when they could be called out on an emergency; the policy would place more limited, seasonal allowances on wardens than on some other public-safety positions.
"The fire chief, Kevin Lloyd, has requested that the fire wardens be added to the list of special positions that have the exemption for personal use of vehicles when there's a chance that they could be called out on an emergency," Hansen said. The amendment also clarified a residency requirement: employees must live within 50 miles of their assigned building, with an exemption available for public-safety positions at the sheriff's discretion. Commissioners moved to accept the amendment and voted to approve it.
