District outlines summer facilities work: shade structures, roofing, LED upgrades

The district's director of maintenance reviewed completed summer projects — bungalow reroofs and repainting, football-field work, LED conversions, playground safety fencing and new drinking fountains — and said no instructional days were lost and no significant cost overruns were reported.
Ernesto Mora, the district’s director of maintenance operations and transportation, presented a summary of summer projects completed across district sites, including Meadowlark, High Desert, Vasquez High School and Little Owls Learning Center. Work included reroofing and repainting bungalows at Meadowlark, receding and landscaping football fields, repairs in culinary arts rooms, LED lighting conversions, new safety fencing and two drinking fountains installed at Little Owls, and planned shade structures for Vasquez.
Mora said most work was completed over the summer with some winter projects planned (new roofs for several facilities). Trustees asked whether any instructional days were lost; Mora said there were none and reported no significant cost overruns. One trustee asked what percentage of the work was completed in-house; Mora estimated about 30–40% in-house labor.
Board members praised the maintenance team and the facilities and finance subcommittee for planning and oversight. Trustees asked for future presentations on next year’s projects tied to the budget; Mora said that will be discussed in the subcommittee and brought back to the board.
