The Howell Planning Commission tabled a site-plan application June 17 that would have added a right-turn-only driveway from Swann Ct into the parking lot at 645 E. Grand River. Planning Consultant Paul Montagno described the change as a relatively minor site alteration; commissioners and residents noted there are four homes on Swann Ct and raised concerns about increased traffic and safety. Residents Shelly McGurk and Kristin McGurk spoke in opposition. Applicant Joe Schmizzi said he had no objection to moving the driveway closer to Grand River.
After discussion Commissioner Jacob Schlittler moved to table the item and instructed city staff to work with the applicant on other possible solutions; the motion carried 7-0. The commission and residents discussed alternatives including moving the driveway nearer Grand River or using off-site parking; staff will meet with the applicant and residents to identify a solution before the item returns to the commission.
