Treasurer outlines LED streetlight pilot, estimates roughly $400 monthly savings

Treasurer Leslie Cummings told the Town of Nutter Fort Council that she has begun piloting LED conversions on Buckhannon Pike and Pennsylvania Avenue to test whether lower-wattage fixtures provide adequate illumination.
Cummings provided a savings estimate: converting a 200-watt streetlight to a 130-watt LED could save about $4.43 per light per month, and converting a 100-watt light to a 50-watt LED could save about $2.93 per light per month. The town inventory cited in the report lists 126 100-watt lights and 8 200-watt lights, a configuration Cummings said could translate to roughly $400 in monthly savings if fully converted. She said other fixture types would be reviewed after the pilot results are evaluated.
The council did not take immediate action on a budget transfer or a broader conversion plan at the Oct. 22 meeting; Cummings said the pilot will inform whether lower-wattage LEDs provide sufficient light and net-cost savings before a larger rollout is proposed.
