Council discusses changes to Ordinance 777 to align HUD inspection timing and repair timelines

Councilors and Code Enforcement reviewed inconsistencies between the Town’s codified ordinances and the West Virginia Property Maintenance Standards during the Aug. 13 meeting. Code Enforcement noted a conflict with the older reference to Section 1511.01 regarding smoke detectors and asked for language that references current property maintenance standards and supersedes the antiquated section.
Code Enforcement recommended that HUD inspections accepted in lieu of Town inspections be limited to those conducted within the previous 30 days and proposed that repair time following a notice of violation be fixed at 30 days. No action was taken; council asked staff to draft revised language for Sections 777.09 and 777.11 and to prepare a version for council consideration at the next meeting.
Council did not vote on the changes during the meeting. The proposed clarifications focus on inspection age, smoke and CO detector references, and establishing a fixed repair deadline; drafts are expected to be presented at a subsequent meeting for formal consideration.
