Police Chief Ron Godwin briefed the council on department needs and funding efforts on Aug. 27. He said replacement tasers are needed, he has located funding for those, and he is evaluating new license-plate-reading camera technology that could be placed on the north and south ends of Route 20 and the east and west ends of Route 98. Chief Godwin said he has a meeting scheduled for Sept. 5 to discuss body-worn camera options.
Chief Godwin said he is pursuing state funds that could cover these purchases rather than relying on general-fund allocations. Councilors did not take an immediate vote on purchases at the meeting and asked for updates as procurement options and funding prospects develop.
