Selectboard discusses River Corridor protection and asks Planning Commission for overlay maps

The Selectboard reviewed interim River Corridor Protection bylaws and asked the Planning Commission to prepare maps showing overlay districts and landowner impacts. Board members noted that a statewide River Corridor overlay district is anticipated within the next two years and warned that FEMA financial benefits may not apply unless the town acts proactively.

Koran Cousino described the bylaw content areas — conditional uses, exemptions and prohibitions tied to floodways, flood-hazard areas and river corridors — and said revised bylaws would be shared at the next meeting after David Schmidt circulated an email with edits. The board’s specific request for maps aims to help members understand how much of town would be impacted and which properties would face new restrictions. No regulatory adoption occurred at the meeting; the item remains in planning stage.
