Sanilac County mental health provider reports substantial increase in clients under CCBHC demonstration

Will Morris of Sanilac County Mental Health presented the agency's annual report during general public comment at the Oct. 1 Sanilac County Board meeting and highlighted increased service numbers tied to the CCBHC demonstration project.
Morris told commissioners that in fiscal year 2023 the agency served 476 residents who came seeking services; in fiscal year 2024 that number rose to 731 — a rise he described as "well over 40%" — and that, overall, the total number of residents served countywide increased from 1,778 to just under 1,982 during the same period. He said approximately 359 residents who prior to CCBHC would not have been eligible were now able to receive local services rather than traveling out of county.
Morris provided printed copies of the report and said Sanilac County Mental Health remains the most comprehensive psychiatric services provider within county boundaries, noting that many specialty services otherwise require travel to Port Huron, Lapeer or Saginaw.
