County reports several hiring efforts underway; equalization director and custodial/dispatch vacancies noted

Sanilac County Administrator Nathan told the board five applications were received for the contracted equalization director role and that three candidates will be invited for evaluation. "We did get, 5 applications for the equalization director," Nathan said, adding the county will bring three people in to evaluate the work.
The personnel committee reported vacancies including a courthouse custodian and part-time dispatch positions. Commissioners gave Nathan authorization to post those vacancies immediately to expedite backfilling, and the committee said it is working on memorandums of understanding with certain departments to allow faster temporary backfills when public-safety positions become vacant.
Why it matters: Commissioners said timely hiring is critical to keep sheriff's deputies and dispatchers on duty and avoid service interruptions. The county set a Sept. 6 deadline for applications to a parks manager position mentioned in the report.
