A city official told the commission the housing needs assessment is in draft form and can be distributed to commissioners by email.
Supporters said the extension gives staff and the commission time to gather and present the data residents have asked for, while critics at the meeting argued the pause has already lasted two years and urged clearer objectives and faster action. The commission emphasized that public engagement will be part of the special meeting and that specific regulatory details — including any caps by district — will be considered after the data review.
The special meeting was set by motion and passed; commissioners recorded multiple voice votes of “Aye” when the date and start time were announced. The moratorium was originally put in place in 2024 and, according to discussion in the meeting, was scheduled to lapse in August 2026 without further action.
