Gardner mayor: $4.1 million MassWorks grant to fund Rear Main Street redevelopment

The Mayor announced that a Rear Main Street redevelopment project behind downtown businesses is moving forward with state support. She said the project will add a 90–100-space parking lot, a splash park, a pavilion stage area, a food truck court and other gathering locations to boost downtown activity.
"This is funded by a $4,100,000 Mass Works grant from the" Mayor said, noting the grant paid for remediation of the former factory site, burying above-ground telephone poles into underground conduits, and installing a new transformer to power the lot and nearby buildings. The project will also include electrical work and other site improvements before the public opening.
The Mayor thanked Jason Stevens, director of the Department of Community Development and Planning, for his role in advancing the project and said the city will share progress updates in the coming month. She said the city is planning programming for the site once it opens to the public.
