Community groups, county staff unveil native-plant garden at Floral Park

Citrus County Parks and Recreation and local conservation groups unveiled a new native-plant garden at Floral Park, organizers said. Molly Gurian, president of the Citrus County Audubon Society, said the project "is funded by Florida Power and Light in conjunction with Florida Audubon" and aims to encourage planting of native species to support birds and pollinators.
Joy Simelka, president of the Citrus chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, said her group helped start the garden and assisted with plant selection. A parks staff member acknowledged the partnership with both groups and said, "Without them and our partnership, we would not be able to educate the community with great opportunities to learn about Florida native plants and also Florida species of birds." The remarks emphasized education, habitat benefits and cooperative funding as the main outcomes of the project.
