Preble County renews several short-term rental permits, reminds applicants about certificates of occupancy

The Preble County Board of Zoning Appeals approved one‑year Temporary Use Permits on Feb. 24 for two short-term lodging operations in Monroe and Twin townships. Lane Osswald said his AirBnB at 459 US 40 West is often rented “about half the month” and sometimes hosts long-stay work crews; Arlin and Elizabeth Filbrun said their converted rental at 4294 New Market‑Banta Road is busy most weekends.
Zoning Director Brad Kramer reminded applicants that Certificates of Occupancy and required inspections must be completed before continued occupancy. Both permits were approved under Section 816.03, Letter O with recorded motions and unanimous roll call votes. Board members said they will monitor neighborhood impacts and noted staff will follow up on occupancy and inspection requirements.
The approvals allow the operators to continue short-term rentals for one year, after which they may apply for extensions or two‑year renewals subject to neighbor complaints or compliance issues.
