Council approves two-year plan to replace downtown trash cans with DDA cost-sharing

Manager Megan Haselden reported the Downtown Development Authority declined a request to fully fund replacement of downtown trash cans; quoted cost was $900 per 55-gallon can. Haselden said the Village could identify $5,000 in its budget to participate in the purchase. "L'Esperance moved, seconded by Ryan to recommend that the DDA partner with the Village to purchase 10 trash cans this year and 10 trash cans next year, with the Village contributing $5000 this year from the following budget areas: $1,500 from the Sanitation Fund; $3,500 from the General Fund including from the following budget categories: $1,500 from Parks & Recreation, $1,000 from Department of Public Works and $1,000 from Buildings & Grounds," the minutes record. The motion carried 5-0.
Council discussed possibly buying smaller 36-gallon cans or splitting the purchase across two fiscal years. The minutes record that the DDA is expected to contribute the remaining cost and that the cans are mainly located in the downtown district.
