Colfax Park Board weighs alternatives after pool-slide fails to meet Washington code; replacement cost nearly doubles

Councilmember Golden relayed the Park Board's update that the slide purchased for the city pool is not permitted under a recent Washington State code change communicated by vendor WMS. The replacement slide that meets current code has a price tag near $140,000 compared with the originally budgeted $80,000. The board declined a proposed climbing wall and asked staff to explore lower-cost options such as a basketball hoop, additional inflatable attractions, sun shades or lounge chairs.
Golden said the city has hired a pool manager and received 10 lifeguard applications; staff will work with WMS to start pool equipment after pumps have been idle for two years. The Park Board also discussed using leftover Chamber of Commerce funds for skatepark entrance work and fence repairs.
