Council members spent substantial time reviewing the charitable donations line in the proposed FY27 budget. Several council members expressed discomfort finalizing allocations without the full council and without knowing the outcome of an upcoming November referendum on property taxation. One council member proposed eliminating the item now and revisiting it later; others favored retaining a placeholder so agreements could be considered after the budget is approved.
The group reached informal consensus to hold $60,000 as a ceiling and to bring the allocation back for a separate council work session before final agreements are executed. City Clerk Kristen Garcia noted that agreements would still come back to council for formal approval and that the $60,000 would remain visible in the budget until allocations are finalized.
