Select board authorizes planning commission to update floodplain and river corridor ordinance with WRC

The Select Board authorized the planning commission to work with Windham Regional Commission to update the Townshend Floodplain and River Corridor Ordinance, which the planning commission said was last adopted in 2007. Doug Valentine, speaking for the planning commission, said Windham Regional Commission (WRC) is willing to perform the update at no cost and that new FEMA maps show updated floodplain and river-corridor boundaries.
‘‘WRC requested that we bring it before the select board and get the motion made and passed, before they move forward with the update,’’ Doug said, noting prior efforts to adopt an updated ordinance had not completed the approval process. The board moved, seconded and approved authorization for the planning commission to proceed; any updated ordinance will return to the select board for final approval.
