Council authorized staff to exercise a contract renewal option with Waste Management for residential trash and recycling service. Staff said the current contract serves 11,736 households and the current unit cost is $14.34 per household per month; the negotiated change would cap the annual CPI‑linked increase at 3% going forward.
During discussion councilmembers asked what a cap would mean for the monthly rate and staff estimated a modest per‑household increase if CPI trends near 3%. The motion to approve the renewal and the revised cap was made, seconded and adopted unanimously.
