The East Hampton Village Police Department swore in two new full‑time officers during the July 31 board meeting and said the hires will bring the department up to its full complement of 27 officers. The police chief introduced the officers and described a lengthy hiring process that drew roughly 420 applicants.
"I'm happy to, hire 2 new full time officers to finally bring our ranks up to our full staffing of 27," the chief said during the meeting. The chief also credited the department's detective unit and captain for conducting in‑house background checks that sped hiring.
Separately, the board approved employment resolutions for the two officers: Resolution 376 approved employment of Joseph Perugini as a full‑time police officer at a starting annual salary of $85,000 effective 08/02/2026; Resolution 377 approved employment of Michael Iadanza as a full‑time police officer at a starting annual salary of $85,000 effective 08/02/2026. The motions were seconded and recorded as "all in favor."
Why it matters: Restoring full staffing affects patrol capacity and response at peak summer population levels. The chief said candidates turned down other opportunities to work in East Hampton and that prior NYPD training meant the new hires did not require retraining at the academy.
