Potter County adopts e‑cigarette ban in buildings, designates outdoor smoking areas

The Potter County Commissioners Court approved an order prohibiting the use and possession of e‑cigarettes inside county buildings and separately designated outdoor smoking and vaping areas outside the Santa Fe Building and the County Courts Building.
County staff member Melinda said the county had previously voted in 2015 to include vaping in the smoking policy but it had not been reduced to writing; the new order formalizes designated areas and authorizes staff to prepare the order and signage. “What I did find was actually in 2015, the court voted on adding vaping to the smoking policy,” Melinda said.
Commissioners discussed moving the district courthouse smoking area away from a breezeway where smoke drifted into public walkways; after exchanging options (east versus west side), the court instructed staff to designate the west side of the building for the courthouse smoking area and approved the order.
Staff said they would prepare updated signage and the formal order for signatures.
