Kerr County appoints new justice of the peace and sets November election schedule
Summary
Court accepted Justice of the Peace Kathy Mitchell's resignation effective July 31 and appointed Taylor Robertson as successor for Precinct 3 effective Aug. 1; the court also ordered the Nov. 3, 2026 general election with early voting Oct. 19–30 and adoption of the Vanguard/Verity voting system.
During the July 27 meeting, commissioners accepted the resignation of Kathy Mitchell as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3 effective July 31 and appointed Taylor Robertson as the successor effective Aug. 1.
A motion to appoint Robertson was made, seconded and passed unanimously. The court also approved the required bond acceptance for the new JP and other procedural items to transition the office.
The county clerk presented and the court approved the order for the Nov. 3, 2026 general election, identifying the Hill Country Youth Event Center as the main early-voting site (Oct. 19–30) and giving dates and times for in-person early voting. The county clerk also noted the implementation of the Vanguard/Verity (Heartland/Vanguard) paper ballot system prior to Sept. 1 to support the election.
