Sheriff’s Office leaders highlighted OCTAC, the Orange County Threat Advisory Committee, a multidisciplinary team formed under Executive Order 18 following the 2022 Buffalo supermarket shooting. Chief Meredith McGovern and Commissioner Peter Cirigliano described the team’s role in identifying warning signs and coordinating responses with law enforcement, mental-health professionals, educators and legal experts.
"Violence doesn’t usually happen instantly, it is something that develops over time and there are often warning signs that people do not know what to about it," McGovern said, describing the assessment team’s purpose. Cirigliano invited legislators to a press conference and noted the team has been operational though the public launch was contingent on accepting funds and finalizing procedures.
