Police warn of delayed car deliveries; department may temporarily insure unused vehicles
Summary
The police department told council new patrol cars will not be delivered until late April or May 1 due to upfitter backlogs; the delay will create a brief window of double insurance costs while old cars remain in the fleet.

The police department reported procurement and upfitting delays on newly purchased patrol cars. The department said it completed the loan process late and missed upfitter production windows because other departments placed large orders. "Our cars are not projected to be delivered to us from the upfitter until the end of April, May 1," the police representative said.
The department warned this will create a short period when the town will carry insurance on both the incoming and outgoing vehicles because the old vehicles cannot immediately be retired until new units are in service. Councilors acknowledged the delay and noted there will be an insurance cost spike during the transition window.
