County reports building conveyances and office relocations; some county buildings now vacant
Summary
Staff reported that the State Patrol and old DOT buildings were deeded back to the state, several county offices relocated (public defender to 601 West Gordon Street; tax offices to the Drake Building) and the annex and Chamber Building are now vacant; planning and zoning moved into the old probate office.
County staff updated the board on a set of facilities changes. The State Patrol building and the old DOT building have been deeded back to the state and utilities transferred; the public defender's office moved to 601 West Gordon Street (the former GBI/tax board building). Tax commissioner and tax assessor offices moved from the annex to the Drake Building, leaving the annex and Chamber Building vacant.
Building and zoning staff relocated to the former probate court office and are continuing the move. Staff said some records remain in temporary storage (including material in the IDA office and probate courtroom) while retention and disposal options are evaluated.
