The town manager reported that the town received a 'Beat the Heat' program award and will work with a university team to map local temperature hotspots and consider cooling measures such as cooling stations and increased tree canopy. "They will look at our community, and they will assess where we have hotter areas and figure out ways that we can help mitigate some of that excessive heat for our residents," the manager said.
The manager also said an application to install two EV chargers in Old School Way was rejected but described that as motivation for the next application round. On economic development, the manager said two local businesses received $20,000 loans each from the town's small-business loan program and that approximately $90,000 remains available to lend. The council encouraged staff to identify members interested in participating in the heat-mitigation task force.
