During department reports the police chief said an offensive odor that previously plagued the station has returned and made the building difficult to occupy. The chief said HVAC technician Joe Snyder inspected the older of two systems and recommended decommissioning it; he provided a quote to replace the failing unit.
"A quote to replace that system would be $7,000," the police chief said, adding that the functioning system might be able to carry building loads through a summer or harsh winter while the town explores whether to replace the unit now or defer. The chief also said prior attempts to locate a commercial duct‑cleaning firm that handles commercial buildings in the Nashville area have been unsuccessful and he is still seeking vendors to provide an estimate for vent cleaning.
Council members asked whether the town would need to close parts of the building during work, how to pay for repairs, and whether records/storage in the building could be moved. The chief and staff agreed to return with quotes, and council discussed funding and whether the town should proceed immediately or wait to see if the remaining HVAC unit can handle the building through seasonal changes.
