Council backs resolution seeking $6 million federal grant for water improvements

Staff representing the town informed council that State Representative Aaron Houchin’s office had flagged a federal grant opportunity for the town’s drinking water needs. The town’s consulting engineers (CDS Engineers) assembled an application package and staff recommended a council resolution in support of the application.
"We are requesting this federal money in the amount of $6,000,000," the staff presenter said, describing the request as funding for Phase 1 of a larger approximately $12,000,000 water‑system project and noting the grant would not require a local match. Council moved, seconded and adopted Resolution 2026‑04 in support of submitting the application and letters of support the engineer recommended.
Staff also noted that other project steps remain (design, future phases) and that approval of a resolution now strengthens the town's application. The motion carried by voice vote.
