Ruston Fire Department reports low call volume, recruits to start academy; tree lighting praised

Fire Chief Bruce Allen told the council that the Ruston Fire Department had only one call last month and thanked volunteers for the annual tree‑lighting event and the recent toy and food drive.
"The Tree Lighting event was amazing and thanks to all the volunteers that helped make it happen," Chief Allen said. He reported that the department completed collections for the food and toy drive and that he will deliver the final load to the food bank. He also said two recruits will start at the Buckley Academy in January, which will add two firefighters to the roster.
The department's supplemental materials for the meeting listed total incidents year‑to‑date, volunteer hours and roster strength, and confirmed the scheduled academy start dates for recruits.
