Mayor: Park Avenue project to start; city to meet EPA on Point Ruston remediation

Mayor Hopkins told the council the Park Avenue project is scheduled to begin Monday and that staff hope to complete the work before winter. The mayor said the city will meet with the EPA and Terracotta on Sept. 27 about Lot 15 at Point Ruston and is working with EPA on a grant in support of remedial action that "should be heard in November." The city will sample soils at the site for arsenic, lead and other potential contaminants as part of pre-remediation work.
The mayor also introduced Monday.com as a new project workflow system and thanked councilmembers for supporting the new tool. On the environmental matter, the mayor said the city is coordinating with both EPA and Ecology to determine sampling needs and next steps; no remediation plan was adopted at the meeting. Council members asked for updates as sampling and grant steps proceed.
