Somerset County Commissioners on Dec. 18 confirmed compensation for two elected offices and agreed to stop the prior practice of signing separate contracts with elected officials.
At the previous meeting commissioners had discussed whether to continue signing contracts with elected officials (Probate, Deeds, Treasurer). The board reached consensus to discontinue contracts while continuing to establish compensation as required by state statute. The minutes record current pay levels discussed in the meeting: the elected Treasurer previously received $6,389.76 and the elected Register of Deeds $5,000. County Treasurer Tracey Rotondi provided background that the separate-pay approach began in 2013 to separate elected duties from Accounts Payable to maintain consistent day-to-day operations during turnover.
The board voted to set the Register of Deeds salary at $5,000 (Resolution 24-254) and the elected Treasurer salary at $6,581.45 (Resolution 24-255), both effective Jan. 1, 2025. Both motions carried on 4-0 voice votes.
