Somerset County opens bids for courthouse LED retrofit funded by DOE grant

The Somerset County Commission opened four bids on Aug. 21 for a project to replace 226 fluorescent lighting fixtures in the courthouse with LED fixtures, a project funded by a U.S. Department of Energy grant.
Bidders and totals were recorded as: IKIO — $64,221.00; Quality Electric — $80,225.00; Madden Generator — $40,356.18 (lowest); and Larkin Enterprises — $162,009.36 (highest). County Administrator Tim Curtis asked that he and Finance Director Patrick Dolan review the bids and bring a recommendation to the next scheduled meeting.
Why it matters: upgrading to LEDs is intended to reduce energy use and operating costs paid from county facilities budgets; the trustees will weigh price, scope and vendor qualifications before selecting a contractor. The board did not take an award decision at the Aug. 21 meeting and deferred selection until staff review and a formal recommendation are presented.
