Amanda Smith of Family Heritage presented optional plans including cancer, accident, heart & stroke and disability coverage, noting plans can assist with indirect costs such as income replacement and copays and that premiums are not payroll deductions. Auditor Geralyn Sherman asked why a presentation was being made if premiums were not payroll deductions and said she was uncomfortable providing employee information; Sherman asked that Smith’s contact information be included in the next payroll materials instead.
The commission agreed there was no need for additional insurance presentations at this time. Auditor Sherman separately asked whether the board wanted an SD FIT representative to discuss investments; the commission declined, preferring to keep taxpayer deposits in local banks.
