McCook County adopts 2026 budget after 4–1 vote; Dick dissents seeking EMS accounting

The McCook County Commission voted 4–1 on Sept. 23 to adopt the county’s 2026 Annual Budget, approving increases that add $150,000 to the Highway Department and $67,036 to Ambulance services. Commissioner Tom Heumiller moved for adoption; Commissioner Steve Gordon seconded.
Auditor Geralyn Sherman and Treasurer Carol Lauer participated in the budget review. Sherman noted the Treasurer’s proposed budget included a new full-time position; Lauer asked for documentation showing how pay has been determined. Commissioner Marc Dick cast the lone dissent, stating he wanted “a paper trail/an accounting from McCook County Emergency Medical Services for where the funds are used.” The formal resolution (Resolution 2025-12) records the total taxes levied at $4,704,458 and a county levy of 3.234 per thousand. The board said the adopted budget is available for public inspection at the County Auditor’s office.
