Council adopts resolution confirming weed-abatement costs for 21 properties

At a formal public hearing on July 28, Fire Chief Nathan Monk presented the city's annual weed-abatement report and said the city abated 21 properties this year, 14 of them owned by absentee owners. The hearing gave residents the opportunity to protest assessed abatement costs; no protests were received.
Monk explained that, if unpaid, the abatement invoices may be placed on the tax roll as a lien (staff projected an August 10 deadline for unpaid invoices). Councilmember comments thanked the fire department for the annual work and asked about the reduction from an earlier list; Monk said the initial list had been whittled down to 21 properties. The council then adopted the resolution confirming costs and declaring a special assessment by unanimous 3–0 vote.
