Council approves broad consent calendar of equipment purchases and service contracts

Alexandria City Council approved a package of routine consent items including ordinances to accept bids for equipment purchases and to renew service contracts for landscape and janitorial maintenance.

The consent calendar included authorizations for an articulated telescopic boom and material handler, a 47-foot hydraulic truck, chlorine-handling crane equipment and renewals for local janitorial and landscape contracts. The administration asked that one procurement item be re-advertised after no bids were received; the council voted to remove and re-advertise that item. During public comment on a vehicle bid, resident Cornelius Lawson White Jr. urged the council to “go with the local dealerships and stuff and car, like, shop local.”
