County approves sheriff's MOU to adopt community engagement app at no county cost

Sheriff Scott Giles asked the court to authorize an MOU to activate a sheriff's-office community app at no cost to Potter County. Giles said the sheriff's association is covering developer costs and the app offers features for public safety and community engagement, including tip reporting, real-time alerts, road-closure notices and the capability to post warrant information or mug shots to reduce repetitive open-records requests.
Giles told commissioners the office will manage the app in-house with current staff and that the platform is already in use in other Panhandle counties; the court voted 5-0 to authorize the MOU.
Commissioners asked whether the app would be publicly discoverable and Giles explained residents will download the Potter County sheriff's app and receive Potter-specific content; he described public-safety and community-engagement benefits of having a single, consolidated channel for alerts and information.
